  • Welcome to the Hands Off Campaign

There are over 10 million people aged 65+ living in the UK.

Two out of three believe that politicians see older people as a low priority.

The ‘Hands Off’ campaign plans to change that.

  • Hands off the Bus Pass

We champion the real value of the bus pass for older people. One in three people aged 60+ in Great Britain use local bus services at least once a week.

The bus pass enables older people to do essential shopping, maintain social networks, attend health appointments, and keep physically active.

  • Hands off Free Prescriptions

We believe older people should not be penalised for poor health.

Older people typically require more medicines than most to maintain a good quality of life and should not be penalised because of their circumstances.

In the UK, 45% of prescriptions are dispensed to patients over the age of 65.

  • Hands off the Winter Fuel Payment

We oppose any further reduction or means testing of the Winter Fuel Payment.

2.5m pensioner households in the UK are living in fuel poverty.

Over 30,000 more people aged 65+ died in the winter months of 2012/2013 than in the other months of the year.

  • Hands off the TV Licence

We defend the need for free TV licences for those aged 75+.

Half of all older people (5m) consider the television as their main form of company.

Over 65s spend an average of 80% of their time in the home; 90% for people over 85.
